Dre Spisto (b. Venezuela, 1989) is an artist working across live performance, film, and embodied practices in theatre, club, and gallery contexts. Their work unfolds through a lens of anarchic charisma, embracing unpredictability, softness, and disruption as tools for dismantling linear narrative structures.
Dre's practice treats the domestic as devotion. Weaving time in a loose and stretchy motion, their work focuses on peripheral moments and sensory information, braiding intimacies between audience, performer, object and spirit. Dré creates invitations to tug on hidden desires, aiming to become a trickless magician.
A graduate of Arthaus Berlin in Lecoq and embodied practices, with a specialism in clown through mask, Dré merges movement, improvisation, and autobiographical character play with live and projected film. Currently an Associate at Open School East (2025–2026), their practice is deepening through collaborative experimentation working with and alongside other artists to explore the generative space between bodies, intentions, and forms. Alongside performance, Dré works as a process director and is currently developing a debut autofiction feature film.
Recent works include 50 Ways to Kill a Slug, a surreal, sensory live art performance exploring slowness, uselessness, and anticapitalist kinship through the figure of the garden slug, funded by Arts Council England and Shape Arts and presented at Battersea Arts Centre, Soho Theatre, and The Wardrobe Theatre. Other credits include El Dizzy Beast (Filipa Bragança Award nominee), Butch Princesa (nominated for Best Cabaret, Best Performance Artist, and Best Theatre Show), Miss Venezuela, and the Tylor and Vincent series.
Dré appears as the shapeshifter in The Stimming Pool, an experimental film co-created by the Neurocultures Collective and artist-filmmaker Steven Eastwood, offering a poetic encounter with environments hostile and soothing to autistic experience through the lens of an autistic camera. Their work has been presented at Jupiter Artland, Soho Theatre, CASA Festival, The British Museum, Arcola Theatre, Brixton House, CPT, Shoreditch Town Hall, Quench Gallery, Shape Arts, Ugly Duck, and ICA. They also collaborated with Sweatmother on Dyke Just Do It (ICA), and led workshops at Turner Contemporary for OSE's public programme.
As a curator and producer, Dré has worked with disability arts organisation Unlimited and as Creative Programmes Producer at People United, producing projects including We Keep Each Other Fed, Queer Zines of Care, and Soft Fascination. They run Snug Club, a queer experimental film night in Margate supporting emerging filmmakers in partnership with Margate Pride, teach on the MA in Theatre for Community and Education at Mountview Academy of Performing Arts, and run Anarchic Charisma, a neuroqueer clown lab based in Margate.
